Coinbase outlines AiFi push, says x402 has processed more than 205 million transactions
Coinbase said on X that it is building a financial layer for AI agents, which it calls agentic finance, or AiFi. The company said the stack covers both agentic trading and agentic commerce, and is designed to let AI agents carry out payments, collections, value storage, and fund transfers within preset goals, permissions, limits, and security boundaries. Coinbase named four products as the core of that infrastructure: Coinbase Advisor, Coinbase for Agents, x402, and Coinbase Business. According to the company, Coinbase Advisor is an SEC-registered investment adviser built into apps for Coinbase One users, while Coinbase for Agents connects tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor to Coinbase accounts through MCP and lets users define operating conditions, security boundaries, and sandbox accounts for agents. Coinbase also said x402, an open payment standard launched by Coinbase and now managed by an independent foundation, has processed more than 205 million transactions and $53 million in volume across 200,000 sellers, with Coinbase facilitating 67% of that activity. The company added that USDC accounts for 99% of onchain agentic commerce transactions, x402 represents 97% of usage across agentic finance protocols, and the related activity runs on Base.
